Summer 2019 Bridge Class Schedule

(July – August)

Location:  Potomac United Methodist Church’s Activity Center Building. We hold many classes a week at this site. The address is 9908 South Glen Rd., Potomac, MD 20854. It is at the intersection of Democracy Blvd. and Falls Rd., the entrance to the parking lot is on Falls Road. (Facing the building, park on the left side or in the center of the lot.)

Tuition: We have lowered our fees due to the ease of our new bookkeeping procedures. All classes can be purchased by using the new “Bridge Buck” tickets (one booklet of 3 tickets sells for $78 online or $75 in class). You can buy these online with your credit card on our Purchase page OR you can purchase them in class. If you prefer to pay by the class, the fee is $30 cash or check.

Beginner Level:

Our Famous Supervised Play Class for Advanced Beginners!! Wednesdays 10 AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Picking the right tool for the right hand is a problem for every level student. We’re going to take the lessons you’ve had in basic opening bids and responses, mix up the topics in random order so you can learn to apply your knowledge. Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Seven weeks, starts July 17 and ends August 28.

 Intermediate Level:

Top Bridge Mistakes Your Partner Makes! Mondays, 10 AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Topics: Weeks 1, 2 & 3 will be a mix of bidding, play and defense. Week 4: When NOT to Pull Trump; Week 5: Getting Rid of Losers; Week 6: How to Get More Than One Ruff; Week 7: How to Destroy Declarer’s Dummy. Seven weeks, starts July 15 and ends August 26.

Supervised Play Based on Audrey Grant’s Popular Conventions. Mondays 7—9 PM. Taught by Charlie. Choosing the right tool at the right time is done through experience. This class focuses on Stayman, transfers, strong opening bids and slam auctions. You play the contract you get to, then we discuss the best contract, how to get to it and how to play it. Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Seven weeks, starts July 15 and ends August 26.                    Note Evening Time

Supervised Play Based on Audrey Grant’s Opening the Bidding. Thursdays, 10 AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Choosing the right tool at the right time is done through experience. This class focuses on opening in first, second, third and fourth seat; strong opening bids and obstructive opening bids (preempts). You play the contract you get to, then we discuss the best contract, how to get to it and how to play it. Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Seven weeks, starts July 18 and ends August 29.

Supervised Play Class for Basic and Competitive Bidding. Thursdays 7—9 PM. Taught by Charlie. Choosing the right tool at the right time is done through experience. These are hands using several topics you learned mostly during the recent Spring semester. There will be some overcalls, Stayman, competitive bidding, jump rebids, and even some slams. You play the contract you get to, then we discuss the best contract and how to play it. Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Seven weeks, starts July 18 and ends August 29.   Note Evening Time

Advanced Level:

Advanced Supervised Bidding, Play and Defense, Part 2. Tuesdays 10 AMNoon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Most of our flashes of brilliance at the bridge table come after a failure. (Sort of a “D’oh!!” moment.) We have assembled some of the most inspiring teaching deals we have and mixed them together so you won’t know in advance if it’s a bidding, play or defense problem. This is one of our most well received classes! Don’t worry about missing any classes as each week stands alone.  Seven weeks, starts July 16 and ends August 27.

 

For those of you who are still having trouble remembering all your lessons, the secret ingredient is to practice, practice, practice.  We offer a Wednesday Afternoon Student Game for our students to have fun and get a chance to practice what they learn in class!  Click here for more information!  Wednesdays, 12:30 – 3 pm!   (No game July 3rd.)
