Winter 2020 Schedule (Jan. – March)

*ALERT!!! WINTER CLOSING POLICY:  If Montgomery County Schools are cancelled due to bad weather, we are closed. If Montgomery County Schools open late, we are on time. (If Montgomery County morning classes are cancelled but the evening activities are open, our evening classes will be held.)

If a scheduled class does not meet because of weather, the following week will cover the topic missed. All the other classes for that time slot will move forward one week and the final class(es) in the series will be cancelled.

Please remember this is supposed to be a fun activity. If you think the conditions where you live are too bad to travel, please err on the side of caution. ——  Leslie and Charlie

Beginner Level:

Supervised Play Class for Advanced Beginners!! Thursdays 10—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Learning to apply new knowledge (picking the right tool for the right hand) is a problem for every level student. We’re going to take the lessons you’ve had in basic opening bids and responses, mix up the topics in random order so you can apply your knowledge without our help. Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Eleven weeks, starts January 16 and ends March 26.

 Intermediate Level:

Supervised Play Based on Audrey Grant’s Competitive Bidding. Mondays 10AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. If you have happy opponents, you are not doing your job! Get into their auctions. Preempts, overcalls, takeout doubles and other competitive tools are reviewed. Book with all deals available for $10 each. No handouts for individual classes available. Six weeks, starts January 13 and ends March 2 (no class Jan. 20 or Feb. 17).

Additional Supervised Play. Mondays 10AM—Noon. Four weeks, starts March 9 and ends March 30.

Supervised Play Based on Audrey Grant’s Opening the Bidding. Mondays 7—9 PM. Taught by Charlie. This class focuses on opening in first, second, third and fourth seat; strong opening bids and obstructive opening bids (pre-empts).  Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Six weeks, starts January 13 and ends March 2 (no class Jan. 20 or Feb. 17).       Note Evening Time

Additional Supervised Play. Mondays 7—9 PM. Four weeks, starts March 9 and ends March 30.   Note Evening Time

Supervised Play Class for Intermediates!! Wednesdays 10 AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Choosing the right tool at the right time is done through experience. These are hands using several topics you learned mostly during the recent Fall semester. There will be some overcalls, Stayman, competitive bidding, jump rebids, and even some slams.  Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Eleven weeks, starts January 15 and ends March 25.

Top Bridge Mistakes Your Partner Makes! Supervised Play format. Thursdays 10 AM—Noon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Topics: Weeks 1, 2 & 3 will be a mix of bidding, play and defense. Week 4: When NOT to Pull Trump; Week 5: Getting Rid of Losers; Week 6: How to Get More Than One Ruff; Week 7: How to Destroy Declarer’s Dummy. Seven weeks, starts January 16 and ends February 27.

Additional Supervised Play. Thursdays 10 AM—Noon. Four weeks, starts March 5 and ends March 26.

Polishing your Bridge, Part 3. Thursdays 7—9 PM. Supervised Play format. Taught by Charlie. This is one of our most popular classes and students are amazed at the amount of new information that they acquire. You do not have to have taken Parts 1 & 2 to enjoy this class, each chapter stands alone. Topics: Week 1: Are These Bids the End of the Auction?; Week 2: When NT Bids Show a Stopper and When They Don’t; Week 3: When a NT Bid is or is NOT Balanced! Three weeks, starts January 16 and ends January 30.               Note Evening Time

Play of the Hand Supervised Play. Thursdays 7—9 PM. Taught by Charlie. These are hands that review basic bidding and play concepts. This is the intermediate class that most of our students ask for! Book with all deals available for $10. No handouts for individual classes available. Eight weeks, starts February 6 and ends March 26.       Note Evening Time

Advanced Level:

Advanced Supervised Bidding, Play and Defense. Tuesdays 10 AMNoon. Taught by Leslie and Charlie. Most of us don’t know what we don’t know! We have assembled an exciting assortment of deals each week that will pinpoint the gaps in your knowledge. Don’t worry about missing any classes as each week stands alone. Twelve weeks, starts January 14 and ends March 31.

 

Wednesday Afternoon Student Duplicate Game, Every Wednesday 12:30—3:00 PM at PUMC*Directed by Charlie Williams. A duplicate game for current students of Leslie, Charlie, or Isabelle.
